In the past when I attempted to blog, I titled it “The Muse” and ART was the theme. My posts were all about what I was painting, what I was thinking of painting, what I thought of painting, etc. Occasionally a bit about the studio and what show or event we were hosting. That, to me at the time, was what was “inspiring”.

But guess what? Art may fit in that little box I made, but inspiration doesn’t. Inspiration is born of random musings and experiences, and a thousand little things that magically lead to a big POP of creativity.

Now I wish to clarify this: I still love that quote from Chuck Close, ”Inspiration is for amateurs… waiting around to be hit on the head by a lightning bolt, you get nothing done… Ideas flow out of the working process, out of what you have already done.” Yes, ideas flow out of the working process. Yes, you get ideas from the work you’ve already done. And yes, if you just sit around and wait for it, it will never happen. But ideas happen in the weirdest places, too. Like driving my car (or better yet, my scooter). That pesky left brain gets to do something to keep it busy and all of a sudden the right is freed. What else? A really awesome meal. A great bottle of wine. Hanging out with good friends. New travel experiences. Seeing a show. Sitting in my garden. Going for a stroll. Splashing in the lake. (You get the idea.)

The blogging was too constricted, only writing about art and art-related subjects. I became bored with it and, ironically, uninspired. And it WAS boring! My posting fell off, because that’s not all there is to art, far from it. It’s not whether art imitates life, or life imitates art, but the fact that art IS life, and life IS art. I wasn’t being true to all that art is, by censoring my posts in such a crippling manner.

So that limitation is out the window. This blog is about all those little random musings, awesome dinners, great wines, new travels, garden sits and lake splashes. And occasionally some heavy duty artsy shmartsy stuff. But mostly the random musings.
